Today, the Big 12 Expansion Committee met regarding bringing the Big 12 back to, well, 12 members.
According to the Chronicle of Higher Education (that’s a legit name for a legit publication), the Big 12 is looking at the University of Louisville, and Brigham Young University (aka Bring ‘em Young University).
Depending on who you believe, Louisville fans have this delusion (a Craig James-level delusion) that they actually turned down an invite, and that WVU was the 2nd choice. We all know how that worked out, right? Keep in mind that FOOTBALL is the main source behind conference realignment.
Anyway, I’m about to discuss why Louisville would be BAD for the Big 12. Come join me…

The West Virginia Mountaineers fell to St. John’s 78-62. The Mountaineers are now 15-6 overall and 5-3 in the Big East.
The Mountaineers never led in this game. St. John’s took a 16 point lead to end the first half. The second half was much of the same. The Mountaineers would pull within 10 with less than 3 minutes left in the game, but that is as close as they would get.
Kevin Jones had 26 points and 12 rebounds giving him his 14th double-double of the season. Truck Bryant had 16 points but was only 4-13 in field goal attempts and 3-8 from 3-point range. The Mountaineers were 23-65 (35.4%) from the floor and 11-19 (57.9%) from the free throw line.
Moe Harkless had 23 points and 13 rebounds in the game for St. John’s. D’Angelo Harrison went for 19. Garrett and Greene combined for 22 points and 10 rebounds. St John’s was 48.4% in field goal percentage, 24.4% from 3-point range, and 75% from the free throw line.
The Mountaineers have no time to rest. They will return to New York on Saturday to face 4th ranked Syracuse.

With seven days remaining until national signing day, all eyes turn to H.S. athletes across the country. Sports analyst and fans will congregate together with anticipation to see which universities will possess the prized Letter of Intent. Coaches will work feverishly to make the final pitch and hopefully a lasting impression in hopes of securing a commitment. For WVU, one of those commitments’ could be Joel Caleb.

So, it looks like WVU has brought on another defensive staffer tonight.
Mike Smith, formerly the New York Jets Linebackers coach, will be coaching Linebackers at WVU.
According to Bruce Feldman of CBSSports, West Virginia is going to hire New York Jets linebackers coach Mike Smith to coach the linebackers at WVU. Feldman first reported it on twitter:
“Jets LB coach Mike Smith will be hired at West Virginia as LB coach. Smith played at Texas Tech while Dana was there.”
Smith played linebacker with the Baltimore Ravens for a short period of time, being drafted in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Ravens. The former Texas Tech standout had an injury shortened career in the pros. He had multiple surgeries on his left shoulder and ended his career before the start of the 2008 season.
It’s widely known that Jets LB Aaron Maybin hugely credits Smith for reviving his career.
Welcome to WVU, Coach Smith!

HailWV.com is officially taking a stand against SOPA & PIPA, joining sites such as Wikipedia and Reddit in a protest on Wednesday, January 18th.
During this time, we will NOT be posting ANYTHING on our site, we will NOT be updating our Facebook or Twitter accounts. I don’t care if WVU chooses to hire their next Defensive Coordinator or Bob Huggins finally knocks out Jim Burr that day, we will not be posting for 24 hours.
You are probably asking yourself, “You cover WVU sports. Why are you taking a stand on something political?”
I realize politics is a dangerous and divisive activity, and getting involved in ANY way, shape or form can divide you from your friends and family. However, after the jump is a brief explanation of why we’re against SOPA & PIPA.
