The West Virginia Mountaineers first took the field in 1891 and have since compiled an impressive 781-526-45 overall record.
Over the last 133 years, WVU has had 38 head coaches. From head coach Frederick Lincoln Emory in the first season to head coach Neal Brown today, the team has seen the tops of mountains and the depths of valleys.
With 526 losses, the Mountaineers haven’t been perfect but which head coaches have led the team to the most disappointing results?
Here are the four worst head coaching hires in WVU football history:
The current head coach of the Mountaineers most recently led his squad to a victory the Duke's Mayo Bowl but his overall record with the team has been disappointing at best.
Over the past five seasons, Brown has led WVU to just 31 wins (an average of 6.2 wins per year). With nearly as many losses, the Mayo Bowl is truly the peak for the Mountaineers' last half-decade.
If Brown sticks around in Morgantown, it will earn him some much needed credit, especially if he can take the team back to another bowl game victory.
However, for now, Brown's performance with WVU leaves a lot to be desired.
