As we are in the beginning part of the football season, the start of the basketball season is just right around the corner. Featuring the a first-year head coach for the second consecutive season, WVU basketball has the top returning three-point shooter primed to make a splash in the Big 12.

First-year head coach Ross Hodge will have an amazing three-point shooter on his roster, and most likely in his starting lineup, who has proven that he can make three pointers at a high clip. Chattanooga transfer Honor Huff, is at the top of the list of players returning this season with the most amount of three-pointers made last season.

Last season, Huff played for the Chattanooga Mocs in the Southern Conference. The former Chattanooga star led the Mocs to a NIT Tournament title while leading the country in three-pointers made (131). In addition to his country leading 131 three-pointers made, Huff led the Mocs in points per game (15.2), fourth on the team in assists per game (2.3), and first in three-point percentage (41.6%) on the team with at least 15 attempted three-pointers.

Huff should be in a great position to light up the floor from the three-point line

In his 103 career games, Huff is averaging 14.3 points per game, 2.1 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, while shooting 42.4% from the floor and 41.6% from beyond the arc. He has remained a consistent three-point shot threat across one season with VMI and two seasons at Chattanooga.

Known as more of a defensive-minded coach, Hodge is sure to benefit from knowing he has one of the most reliable three-point shooters on the court for most of the game. Huff is in a great position to succeed with this reconstructed roster from the turnover of players leaving in the transfer portal after the departure of the 2024-2025 head coach, Darian DeVries. Huff will be relied on to get to his spots and get his shots up game in and game out.

That constant reliance on one of the best three-point shooters in the country can weigh heavy, but Huff will not be forced to be the primary ball-handler in this offense as well. North Texas transfer Jasper Floyd, will be the main option for Hodge in running the WVU offense. Offering familiarity, an ultra-rare trait in the transfer portal era, Floyd gives Hodge some comfort in knowing what Floyd has to offer.

Consistency across three seasons, coming into a season with the most made three-pointers made last season, and not being the main player tasked with running the offense are all reasons why we might see a special season from Huff in 2025-2026. The Brooklyn, New York, native is poised to continue his great success in college by shooting from behind the arc.
