As the West Virginia men’s basketball program looks to rebuild once again after being gutted by the transfer portal and the exit of a coaching staff led by Darian DeVries, new head coach Ross Hodge is off and running. Hodge has already successfully landed several commitments out of the transfer portal -- and one high school commitment -- but the team still has a ways to go in order to fill out the roster.

If comparing the current state of the program with the state of the program at this time last year help at all, West Virginia had just one transfer portal commitment in mid-April of 2024 and he was the son of the newly hired head coach. The 2025 version of the Mountaineers has already landed six commitments.

Currently, only two Mountaineers are still on the roster from last season's team, only one of whom saw significant action last season -- those players would be Haris Elezovic and Abraham Oyeadier. But there is already reason to believe the Mountaineers will be set with a solid roster next season.

Ross Hodge is indeed not messing around. Let’s take a look at who the newest Mountaineers are and what they may bring to the table throughout the 2025-26 season.

Jasper Floyd - Senior - North Texas

9 PPG, 3 RPG, 3.9 APG, 1.3 SPG

Ross Hodge’s point guard from North Texas will be joining the efforts in Morgantown. Jasper Floyd started in all 36 games for the Mean Green helping lead the team to the NIT Semifinals. In 4 NIT performances, Floyd took his game to another level scoring over 15 points per game while dishing out nearly 5 assists and collecting 5 rebounds. On the season, Floyd was the team’s 3rd-leading scorer, while leading the team in both assists and steals.

Floyd is certainly a welcome addition in Morgantown as he will bring familiarity to Hodge’s offensive and defensive schemes.

Brenen Lorient - Senior - North Texas

11.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.4 APG, 1.1 BPG

Athletic forward Brenen Lorient will also be making the move from North Texas. Lorient started his career at FAU where he did not see significant playing time through 2 seasons. At North Texas, Hodge helped Lorient to blossom, averaging nearly 12 points off the bench. Last year at North Texas, he was named American Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference and AAC Sixth Man of the Year.

"We are thrilled to have Brenen Lorient at West Virginia University," Hodge said regarding his commitment. "Brenen has won at every level of basketball and brings with him Final Four experience. He has improved every year and has an incredibly high basketball ceiling.”

Honor Huff - Senior, Chattanooga

15.2 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 2.3 APG

The nation’s leader in made three-pointers for the 2024-25 season is heading to Morgantown. Honor Huff knocked down 131 3-point field goals and helped lead Chattanooga to an NIT Championship earlier this month.

Huff shot 41.6% from downtown and made 4 or more threes in 16 games this past season. Interestingly enough, in 2 appearances against his former school VMI, Huff made 16 of his 21 attempts from beyond the arc. He also scored 20 points (6-12 3PT) in 40 minutes played in a 74-65 loss to Indiana.

The 5’10 guard out of Brooklyn is certainly eager to show what he can do in a major conference like the Big 12. For Ross Hodge and company, this is an excellent "get" out of the portal. Huff had garnered interest from numerous major programs and ultimately chose the Mountaineers over the likes of Saint John’s, Iowa, Pitt, and Vanderbilt.

Chance Moore - Senior - St. Bonaventure

13 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 1.1 APG, 1.3 SPG

Morgantown will be Moore’s fourth stop playing collegiate basketball. After receiving limited playing time at Arkansas during the 2021-22 season, Moore found a home at Missouri State for 2 seasons where he was a double-figure scorer. This past season, Moore was a starter for the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. He helped the Bonnies to a 22-12 record as the team’s second-leading scorer, leading rebounder and leading shot blocker.

Being listed as a 6’6 guard, Moore has proven to be a solid defender and rebounder and will look to flourish in a Ross Hodge-led defensive system.

Chance Moore has already played at the WVU Coliseum and seemed very comfortable in doing so -- Moore and the Missouri State Bears opened their season in Morgantown in 2023. Moore led all scorers with 24 points and collected 8 rebounds. WVU won by a final score of 67-59.

Jackson Fields - Senior - Troy

7.9 PPG, 4.8 RPG

The 6’8 rising senior out of Missouri City, Texas will look to provide depth in the West Virginia front court. In his 3 seasons spent at Troy, Fields has shown continual growth. Spending the previous 2 seasons as a starter for the Trojans, Fields helped lead the team to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2025. In 28 minutes, Fields scored 7 points and collected 7 rebounds in a loss against 3-seed Kentucky.

“Jackson brings with him NCAA Tournament and championship experience,” Hodge said about his commitment. “He is a versatile player who happens to be an incredible person. He also continues to improve which speaks to his character and work ethic.”

Harlan Obioha - Senior - UNC Wilmington

9.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 0.9ast, 1.2blk

Obioha was Hodge's first transfer portal commit -- a 7’0 Center out of Hoxie, Kansas, Obioha started his career at Niagara where a major jump in year two led to his transfer to UNC Wimington. As a Seahawk, Obioha was a major contributor en route to an NCAA Tournament berth. In 23 minutes played against 3-seed Texas Tech, Obioha scored 7 points and collected 9 rebounds.

Whether as a starter or off the bench, Obioha will look to provide consistent minutes for WVU while being a force on the glass. Obioha was a heavily coveted big man in the portal and is a significant pick up for Hodge and the Mountaineers.

DeAndre Thomas - Freshman - Allen High School (TX)

10.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG and 2.1 APG (Senior Season of High School)

The Mountaineers have currently landed one incoming freshman in DeAndre Thomas, who had committed to Hodge at North Texas and decided to follow him to Morgantown.

Thomas played for a Top 25 national program at Allen High School and is ranked amongst the Top 25 players in Texas and Top 75 players at his position nationwide by multiple recruiting services -- he's managed double-digit scoring averages the past two seasons.

"We are excited to have DJ join our Mountaineer basketball program," Hodge said. "DJ played for one of the best high school programs in the country. He has experienced winning at a very high level and has incredible character. His size and versatility give him the chance to be a great player."
