It has been a busy preseason in terms of award watch list for a certain WVU football running back.

Jahiem White’s name has been floating around a lot with prestigious awards watch list. The junior running back was announced to the Walter Camp Player of the Year Watchlist on Monday. The announcement comes just under a week after White was named to the Maxwell Award watch list.

White is projected to be a workhorse in the backfield for head coach Rich Rodriguez. The returning tailback for the Mountaineers is projected by many media professionals to have a breakout season under the Rich Rod offense and being the primary back in the backfield. White is coming into his junior season looking physically ready to dominate the competition.

White included in two award watchlist a couple of weeks before season kicks off

The York, Pennsylvania, native was named to the Maxwell Award Watchlist on July 31. Just under a week later, White was added to another award watchlist. Many eyes will be on White, the featured running back in this WVU offense, including award panelists and voters.

Starting the season against Robert Morris, WVU faces an early test against the Ohio University Bobcats in Athens, Ohio during week two of the season. The Bobcats are reigning MAC champions and have three straight seasons with at least 10 wins and three straight bowl wins, including beating Rich Rodriguez’s previous squad Jacksonville State in the Cure Bowl. White and the offense will have a early test going up against the Ohio defense.

It is important for WVU to get off to a fast start to the season, and a lot of that responsibility will fall on White. Fair or not, White is the returning offensive star with the most starting experience on the offensive side of the ball.

White and the WVU offense begins their 2025 season with their Robert Morris game at home on August 30. The workhorse running back, White, will be the focus point on the offense from fans and media members.
