West Virginia baseball's talented infield keeps racking up the accolades.

The Mountaineers have had two relief pitchers named to a midseason award watch list, joining catcher Logan Sauve and shortstop Brodie Kresser as candidates for some of college baseball's top awards. This makes four Mountaineer players named to a midseason watch list.

Relievers Chase Meyer and Reese Bassinger have been named to the National College Baseball Writers Association’s (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award Midseason Watch List. WVU is just one of five teams with two relievers on the award watch list.

Meyer, a former Big 12 Pitcher of the Week winner, has been a guy that first-year head coach Steve Sabins has relied on, especially in high-pressure situations. Bassinger, meanwhile, started the year with three saves in the first four games of the season.

Both relievers have been fantastic for Sabins out of the bullpen. Meyer has a 2.43 ERA in 29.2 innings while striking out 45 hitters. Meyer (7-1 record) is holding opponents to just a .124 batting average. Bassinger has been a late game specialist (4 S), an innings eater (45 innings pitched), and just about anything Sabins needs. Bassinger (4-0) holds a 2.93 ERA with the second-most innings pitched (behind Friday starter Griffin Kirn), a team-leading 0.85 WHIP, and a .194 batting average while adding 29 strikeouts.

During a great season that has seen the Mountaineers rack up 35 wins, a large number of WVU players are getting individual accolades and recognition for their parts in the Mountaineers' success. In addition to the four players to be named to an award watch list, WVU has three players with Big 12 weekly awards (one Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, one Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week, and one Big 12 Player of the Week).

Meyer and Sauve are the two Mountaineers to be named to their respective positions' award watch list, also winning a Big 12 weekly award. Sauve was announced to be named on the Buster Posey Award watch list. Sauve’s fellow infielder, Kresser, made the midseason watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award.

When a team is winning as much as WVU has so far in 2025, individual players are going to receive a lot of attention for accolades and award watch list. Mountaineer baseball fans are excitedly waiting to see if any WVU players are going to take home national awards after the season.
