As West Virginia baseball continues their strong season, some Mountaineers are getting some national media recognition.

At one of the most pivotal positions on the diamond, junior catcher Logan Sauve has been nothing but a great player behind the dish. Catching is demanding, and when you have someone as good as Sauve, it can really elevate a team. Because of his great performance thus far, Sauve found himself named to the Buster Posey Award Watch List on Monday.

The Buster Posey Award is given to the most outstanding catcher in college baseball, determined by the Wichita Sports Commission. 56 catchers made the mid-season watch list, including five catchers from the Big 12.

A couple of weeks ago, Sauve earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors after his great weekend performance against Houston. The Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, native came into the 2025 season with high expectations. ย Before the 2025 season started, he was named to the 2025 Big 12 Preseason Team.

Sauve is the second player from the Mountaineers to be named to a mid-season award watch list -- last Wednesday, fellow infielder Brodie Kresser was named to the Top 100 Brooks Wallace Watch List. The combination of Sauve and Kresser has been essential for the run-producing offense that WVU is exhibiting this season.

Sauve is sixth on the team in batting average with a .323 batting average. Behind West Virginia native Jace Rinehart, he is currently second on the team in OPS with a 1.028 OPS. Additionally, Sauve and Rinehart are tied for team lead in home runs with seven apiece. Kresser (29 RBIs) and Rinehart (39 RBIs), are the only two hitters to have more RBIs on the team ahead of Sauveโ€™s 28.

Sauve has been a critical piece in the high-functioning WVU offense, and others have noticed. The semifinalists for the Buster Posey Award will be announced on May 19, so Mountaineer fans should keep an eye on that date to see if Sauve makes the cut.
