Javon Small, who is coming off a standout senior collegiate season with WVU basketball, has officially been selected by the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft.

Small went at the 48th overall pick in the Draft after being listed by ESPNโ€™s Jay Bilas as one of the top prospects available entering the second day of the event. Small had some big moments during Mayโ€™s NBA Draft Combine, including some quiet-yet-impressive performances in 5-on-5 action against other prospects and a โ€œlights outโ€ shooting display for scouts.

Small finished his collegiate career at WVU after previous stops at East Carolina and Oklahoma State. He tied for the Big 12 scoring title with 18.5 points per game during his sole season in Morgantown, starting all 31 games for the Mountaineers and averaging 36 minutes per contest.

Small also added 5.6 assists per game, 4.2 rebounds per game, and 1.6 steals per game during his senior campaign -- he was named an All-American Honorable Mention, NABC East District First-Team selection, and All-Big 12 First team selection for his efforts.ย

There has been โ€œgrowing interestโ€ in Small from NBA teams since February, according to ESPNโ€™s Fran Fraschilla, as he put on several prolific performances to keep WVUโ€™s NCAA Tournament hopes alive amidst a shallow rotation and program-wide injury struggles. However, the Mountaineers were snubbed from the postseason with a 19-13 record at the end of the season.
