While we try to highlight each individual news item related to West Virginia sports here at HailWV, sometimes there are a handful of news items that fly under the radar for news and fans alike.

For those wanting to keep up with the latest on all current and former Mountaineers, here are some news stories from this week you may have missed.

Javon Small Gaining NBA Attention

It can't be overstated how important current senior guard Javon Small has been for the WVU men's basketball program this season.

Small has served as a leader on a completely rebuilt roster under first-year head coach Darian DeVries, and has helped keep the injury-plagued Mountaineers (15-10, 6-8) alive in the NCAA Tournament hunt despite a short rotation.

Small leads the Big 12 in scoring (18.6 points per game) and is third in the league in assists (5.5 per game), and is starting to garner attention from those looking for talent at the highest level of the sport.

National collegiate hoops insider and former head coach Fran Fraschilla recently spoke with NBA scouts at an Arizona-Baylor basketball game, and reported that there is a "growing interest" in the Mountaineers' guard.

Jevon Carter to Host Local Youth Camp

There's nothing like a former alum giving back to the community that helped jumpstart their career, and former WVU and current Chicago Bulls start Jevon Carter likely agrees.

Carter announced Tuesday on Instagram that he will be bringing his 'Treadmill Mentality Academy' to Mylan Park in Morgantown this coming summer from July 11th-July 13th.

The Treadmill Mentality Foundation was founded by Carter and his wife, Taylor Carter, in 2023 in order to "support the well-being of children and families through community initiatives."

The foundation's name is a nod to former WVU Head Coach Bob Huggins. Huggins would use treadmill sprints as a form of punishment when leading the program at WVU -- according to the organization's website, a treadmill going 18 miles per hour would sit on the sidelines during practices run by Huggins, waiting for punishment runs doled out to players for various transgressions.
