The last couple weeks have been quite significant for former West Virginia men's basketball star Erik Stevenson.

Stevenson, who finished his collegiate career with Mountaineers during 2022-2023 season, was recently named to the G League ”Up Next” Game as a part of the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend. Stevenson is currently having the best season of his young career in the G League, posting 17.1 points per game with the Capital City Go-Go.

Now, the good news continues for Stevenson as it was announced on Tuesday that he has signed a 10-Day contract with the Washington Wizards on Monday -- it will be his first career opportunity to play in the NBA.

Former Mountaineer gets a chance to earn his spot in the NBA

In the middle of having a career season in the G League, Stevenson has earned himself a chance to keep an NBA roster spot. Stevenson, in addition to showing up significantly in the scoring column this season, is also chipping in 4.1 rebounds per game and 3.3 assists per game.

Stevenson joins the Wizards, who could use the help -- they are currently 9-45 and sit dead last in the Eastern Conference in 15th place. The Wizards are hopeful that Stevenson can bring a scoring presence to their offense to improve their season.

The former WVU guard played during legendary WVU Head Coach Bob Huggins' last season coaching the Mountaineers. During Stevenson’s only year at WVU, he helped WVU punch their ticket to March Madness with an NCAA Tournament at-large bid as a nine-seed before falling to the eight-seed Maryland Terrapins in the first round.

Stevenson hopes to join the a pair of former Mountaineer guards in the NBA -- Jevon Carter of the Chicago Bulls and Miles McBride of the New York Knicks have paved the way for a pipeline of Huggins-era WVU players to earn significant roles on NBA rosters.

Mountaineer fans will be excited to see how the former WVU guard will perform in the NBA. Stevenson discussed the passion WVU fans have for those athletes who have contributed to the program in an appearance last year on the '3 Guys Before The Game' podcast from West Virginia MetroNews.

“We’re everywhere,” Stevenson said on the podcast. “There will be random people, like we'll be in other gyms, and a janitor will be West Virginia tied, or a security guy in another gym, and I'll be like, how's it going," Stevenson said.

The Lacey, Washington native will presumably join the Wizards on Friday when the Wizards take on Milwaukee Bucks.
