Lost amongst the news from West Virginia football's pre-spring football press conference on Thursday was some big news on the recruiting trail for the Mountaineers.
4-star Class of 2026 quarterback Brodie McWhorter has officially cut his list of potential schools down to seven options, and WVU was among the seven schools listed.
Also making the cut for McWhorter’s list was a slew of programs across the Power 4 level -- Indiana, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Colorado.
McWhorter, a native of Kingston, Georgia, is ranked amongst the Top 200 prospects in his class -- he sits currently as the 166th-ranked recruit in the nation, according to Rivals. He is 26th-ranked prospect in the state of Georgia, and the 14th-ranked player at his position.
A Second Commitment to WVU?
McWhorter was initially committed to the Mountaineers until December 2nd. He was recruited by former coach Neal Brown's staff, but just one day after the end of Brown's tenure at WVU, McWhorter decided to decommit from the Mountaineers and reopen his recruiting.
All Glory to God ! There is nothing else like Morgantown and who wouldn’t want to play for Coach Brown ? More than grateful for the WVU staff. Country Roads, take me home !! #TakeMeHome26 🏔️ Who’s next ? #COMMITTED @NealBrown_WVU @CoachTylerAllen pic.twitter.com/o1MsbbEHO6

Returning to Morgantown for the first time since his departure in 2007, Rich Rodriguez hopes to 're-land' a commitment from an incredible quarterback talent in McWhorter -- Rodriguez describes his system as "quarterback-centric."
The Class of 2026 quarterback is set to have an on-campus visit in Morgantown on April 4, with the Mountaineers' Gold-Blue Spring Showcase set for the next day. Rich Rodriguez and staff will likely try to roll out the red carpet to recapture such a promising young talent. McWhorter will also visit Wisconsin in the same month with an on-campus visit scheduled for April 25.
According to Rivals.com, their Fan Futurecast has McWhorter predicted to recommit to WVU with a 68% chance. The next closest prediction is Indiana, with a 17.3% chance of landing the ultra-talented quarterback.
Mountaineer fans are hoping that WVU can get this Class of 2026 stud to recommit to the program. Meanwhile, WVU is set to begin spring practice this coming Tuesday.
