The West Virginia Mountaineers will need to add yet another new face to their roster as they have lost another player to the transfer portal on Thursday.

Jackson Fields, who transferred to the Mountaineers last year from the Troy Trojans, has officially entered the transfer portal. Fields missed the opening stretch of the season due to injury, then played in just nine games for WVU this season before opting to preserve a medical redshirt. He averaged 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game.

Jackson Fields becomes the seventh WVU basketball player to enter the transfer portal this offseason

Fields joins number of other West Virginia Mountaineers from this past season's squad to officially enter their name into the portal, which also includes DJ Thomas, Jasper Floyd, Abraham Oyeadier, Morris Ugusuk, Jaden Forsythe, and Evans Barning Jr.

And with these portal losses, this means the Mountaineers are down 12 of the 15 players from last year's team when including those who are out of eligibility – with just one of those three returners, Amir Jenkins, having seen the floor at all last year.

But that shouldn't be too much of a problem for the Mountaineers, as head coach Ross Hodge has been hard at work building a stellar group of replacements for what he's losing. That includes a high school recruiting class highlighted by five-star guard Miles Sadler, and a transfer portal class which includes three four-star transfer portal prospects – two of which are coming from Power 5 programs.
