This week, the West Virginia Mountaineers embark on a treacherous road trip against a defending conference champion – and it just happens to be an opponent one WVU football wide receiver has seen previous success against.
Cam Vaughn, who suited up for current WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez last season with the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, is no stranger to the Ohio Bobcats. That's because Jacksonville State played Ohio in the Cure Bowl last December, just after Rodriguez took the job with the Mountaineers. Vaughn would end up following his coach to Morgantown, but first suited up for the Gamecocks against the Bobcats in the postseason. And he ended up having the best game of his young collegiate career that day.

Vaughn hauled in nine receptions against the Bobcats, tallying 183 receiving yards and scoring one touchdown in a game that Jacksonville State ultimately lost 30-27. Due to that, you have to wonder if a bit of revenge isn't on Vaughn's mind ahead of this Saturday's game.
Vaughn nearly outdid his final performance from the 2024 season during his WVU debut against Robert Morris, hauling in seven receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown. His performance led what WVU starting quarterback Nicco Marchiol believes might be the deepest receiving corps in the Big 12 Conference.
Vaughn has already proven himself to be able to make a game-changing impact against the Ohio Bobcats, is familiar with the program's defense, likely has revenge on his mind, and looked in Week 1 to be every inch the potential Biletnikoff Award candidate he was pegged to be in the preseason. For all those reasons, Vaughn will likely be the player to watch for the Mountaineers this week.
