WVU football has a wide receiver named to the most prestigious wide receiver award in college football. The award has all-time collegiate and professional players take home the hardware.

Wide receiver Cam Vaughn, who followed Rich Rodriguez from Jacksonville State to WVU, was named to Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List on Wednesday. The Biletnikoff Award is arguably the most prestigious award outside of the Heisman Trophy. Awarded to the nation’s best wide receiver, the winner of the Biletnikoff Award is enshrined as a top level collegiate wide receiver.

Established in 1994 awarding the most outstanding wide receiver in college football, the Biletnikoff Award has seen some legendary players, both at the collegiate and professional level. Semifinalists for the award will be announced on November 17 with the winner being announced December 11 as a part of The Home Depot College Football Awards.

Vaughn has a chance to etch his name in history books

In his one season at Jacksonville State before transferring to WVU, Vaughn registered 48 catches tallying 803 receiving yards with eight receiving touchdowns in 14 games. As a freshman, Vaughn stepped into the spotlight for Jacksonville State with his production on the field.

Winning the Biletnikoff Award will bring a whole new level of attention and praise to Vaughn and the Mountaineer program. Previous award winners include NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss, NFL Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Ja’Marr Chase, Devonta Smith, and 2025 NFL Draft second overall pick Travis Hunter, just to name a few of the previous winners.

Vaughn will remain in the Rich Rodriguez offense and might be one of the top two targets for redshirt junior quarterback Nicco Marchiol.

Could we see a breakout season with Vaughn with an improved quarterback and other weapons to distract the defense? Maybe. The 2025 season for Vaughn, and many others, is something that WVU fans are excited to watch unfold.
