It’s been a rough Monday for the WVU football program.

The bad news kicked off early Monday afternoon as the news broke that Jahiem White, who was the starting running back for the Mountaineers to start the 2025 season before suffering a season-ending injury, plans to enter the transfer portal. But he wasn’t the first WVU running back to hit the portal – as the news came in the early evening that one of the players who saw action in relief of White, Diore Hubbard, will also be headed into the portal.

Hubbard started the season near the bottom of the depth chart for WVU, but ended up starting multiple games for the team after injuries took a toll on running back depth for the program. He ended up finishing the season as WVU's leading rusher with 335 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the year, having one 100+ yard rushing performance against Houston. He was also named Big 12 Freshman of the Week after the Colorado win, during which he tallied 158 all-purpose yards.

Between losing Hubbard and White, the Mountaineers are losing a pair of running backs who accumulated over 2,100 rushing yard and 18 touchdowns over the past two seasons. The Mountaineers are now set to bring back five running backs from this year's roster – Kannon Katzer, Tyler Jacklich, Clay Ash, Cyncir Bowers, and Andre Devine are the players who have not announced their portal entry and still have eligibility remaining.
