The West Virginia Mountaineers have put together an incredible 2026 recruiting class so far, highlighted by the additions of 4-star post player Aliou Dioum and 5-star guard Miles Sadler, who was recently named the Nike EYBL Player of the Year and will enter the program as the highest-rated signee in WVU basketball history
The Mountaineers are also hard at work on building future classes as well, but on Thursday, they made a late addition to their 2026 class that will provide significant upside and a local connection to their roster next season.
Ross Hodge adds commitment from Class of 2026 Wheeling Central Catholic (WV) wing Max Olejasz
On Thursday, Max Olejasz of Wheeling Central Catholic in West Virginia announced he would be committing to the Mountaineers after speaking multiple times with WVU assistant Johnny Estelle.
"I have grown up watching WVU and going to games so I would say I have a vast knowledge of them,” Olejasz told WV Sports Now during his recruitment.

Olejasz starred for the Maroon Knights as they captured back-to-back Class AA State Championships over the past two seasons, scoring 10 points and six rebounds in last week's Class AA title game for Wheeling Central Catholic as they secured their 14th state title and finished the year 23-0 – their first undefeated season as a program since 1963. Olejasz was named to the Class AA All-Tournament team for his efforts.
"You know, Max [Olejasz] and Luke [Sancomb] did their thing, and that’s why we won the game today,” said Maroon Knights senior Eli Sancomb, the West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year and a Liberty commit.
The 6-foot-7 wing adds length on the perimeter and dynamic scoring and rebounding ability both inside and outside the paint, and also brings the type of versatility only provided by high-caliber dual-sport athletes, as he helped lead his school to a state championship in football last season as well while playing wide receiver – he finished the season 328 yards and multiple touchdowns.
