It's intriguing that a former Division II pitcher who only spent one season in Morgantown was the standout star during the WVU baseball's historic 2025 season -- but he did have a mighty impressive season.

Griffin Kirn's lone season in Morgantown could not have gone much better, in fact, and he was named a Third Team All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association on June 11. The lefty had a remarkable year, finishing with a 5-3 record and sporting a 3.36 ERA in 99 innings. Kirn also earned a save in the final game of the Clemson Regional. He appeared in 18 games (starting 17 of them) during the 2025 season.

Kirn had a remarkable senior season at WVU

Transferring in from Quincy University, a Division II program, Kirn immediately brought an impact to the WVU squad. The left-handed pitcher was named the Friday night starter for the series against Jacksonville in February, and he retained the role as the weekend series opener for the remainder of the season.

Along with being named a Third Team All-American, Kirn was also named to the All-Big 12 First Team and the Clemson Regional All-Tournament Team for his impressive effort during the 2025 campaign.

Now, Kirn will be hoping to hear his name called during the upcoming 2025 MLB Draft, which is scheduled to take place July 13-14. WVU baseball fans will likely be watching as the Mountaineers will have the opportunity to send multiple more alumni to the major leagues.
