After a tough loss on Saturday, WVU Baseball (14-1) claimed a 14-7 win over Kennesaw State (6-11) on Sunday, helping them secure an overall series win. They'd follow it up on Tuesday with another win against Towson, gaining a 16-5 Run-Rule Victory in a standalone contest.

Mountaineers get back into the win column after tough loss

The top four hitters in the lineup were enough by themselves to outscore Kennesaw State on Sunday. Brodie Kresser, Logan Sauve, Sam White, and Jace Rinehart combined for nine hits and eight RBIs. That level of production from the top four hitters is always a great sign, and with Big 12 conference play beginning Friday against Oklahoma State, the production at the top of the order has to be great.

Everyday shortstop Kresser went 3-5, adding four RBIs, three runs scored, and drew one walk, and the starting shortstop hit a three-run home run in the eighth. Kresser was hit in the face with a pitch on Saturday, but returned to the lineup with a cage on his batting helmet on Sunday and had himself a great day

Ontario, Canada, native White remained unstoppable at the plate. White joined fellow infielder Kresser in hitting a three-run home run during Sunday’s win. White’s homer came during the first inning, and he finished 2-4 on the day with three RBIs and one run scored.

The 2025 Big 12 Preseason Team catcher Sauve is steadily making consistent contributions to this high-scoring Mountaineer offense. Sauve picked up a double in his 2-5 day at the plate. In addition to the double, Sauve added one RBI and one run scored while drawing a walk.

Cleanup hitter Rinehart, potentially overshadowed by the explosiveness of the top three hitters, added another successful day at the plate in a Mountaineer uniform. Rinehart, known by the nickname "Rhino" to his teammates and fans, only trails Kresser in OPS on the team. The senior transfer from USC Upstate has an incredible 1.115 OPS through the first 15 games this season. Rinehart had a 2-5 day with a double and run scored.

Four pitchers combined for the nine innings on the mound for WVU. David Hagen earned the start and went two innings, allowing three runs (two earned). Tyler Hutson pitched really well and picked the win, his first of the season, going three innings pitched, allowing one run, and collecting five strikeouts.

Benjamin Hudson also had a nice outing on the mound in relief. Hudson also threw three innings, allowing one run and recording three strikeouts. Closing out the last two innings, Robby Porco, who has started three games in 2025, appeared in relief, working one inning while giving up one earned run.

The Mountaineers kept the momentum rolling against Towson, as sophomore Spencer Barnett knocked a pair of home runs out of the park -- including a game-ending grand slam. They were able to put away the Tigers in eight innings via a Run-Rule win despite feature a 10-man pitching lineup that never managed to find much consistency.
