McWhorter originally committed to WVU on June 24th, 2024, when Neal Brown was the head coach. The Kingston, Georgia, native decommitted from the Mountaineers on December 2nd, 2024, just one day removed from the announcement of the end of coach Brown’s tenure in Morgantown.
After reopening his recruitment, WVU still seemed to be very much in play for the class of 2026 four-star recruit. According to Rivals, WVU had a 68% chance to re-land the talented four-star recruit. McWhorter had a visit to Morgantown scheduled for April 4th, which can be assumed will not happen now.
Wisconsin, Indiana, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Colorado are the five schools that will have a chance to receive a commitment from McWhorter. Right now, 247 Sports does not have a prediction for where McWhorter will be playing football at the next level, but Rivals’ FutureCast has McWhorter having a 100% chance of taking his talents to Mississippi State. The former WVU commit will make his announcement on May 15th.
McWhorter is ranked as the 14th quarterback prospect and ranked as the 170th national recruit according to Rivals. The 6’2” 195-pounder is an explosive athlete.
Returning home to West Virginia, Rich Rodriguez is confident in his upcoming quarterback room’s ability to compete and perform. As a Class of 2026 recruit, McWhorter would have made a nice addition to the quarterback position for the future of the WVU program. This loss of a four-star is not ideal, but Mountaineer fans should have confidence in Rodriguez’s ability to find another recruit for the future.
