The atmosphere in Morgantown is going to be energetic this coming weekend, as Kendrick Family Ballpark and the West Virginia Mountaineers host an NCAA Regional after earning one of the Top 16 seeds in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
It's the first time the Mountaineers have earned the achievement since 2019, and they have a tough task ahead of them in terms of the competition they'll have to face, but the program is excited to bring some NCAA Regional action to Morgantown for a multitude of reasons.
Steve Sabins believes there's 'nothing better' than WVU baseball getting to host NCAA Regional
After the full bracket was revealed on Monday, West Virginia head coach Steve Sabins talked with the press, and he took time to highlight why earning a regional host opportunity is important for both the program and the whole state – and it goes far beyond the implications of home-field advantage during the tournament.
"To be able to go to four consecutive Regionals is certainly special, and to mix in a hosting situation for the community and the state, there's nothing better," Sabins said. "The people of this state are passionate about our program, they're passionate about WVU. And to be able to bring an event like this here is meaningful to me."

"I'm just proud of the staff and the players and my family and everyone who is going to get to experience high-level college baseball. There will be great opponents, and the atmosphere in Morgantown is really hard to beat. I know that tickets will be extremely hard to come by, and we will pack as many people into that place as the fire marshal allows."
The Morgantown Regional will get underway on Friday, May 29 at Noon EST with No. 2 seed Wake Forest and No. 3 seed Kentucky and will also be broadcast live on ESPN2, and then the Mountaineers will face No. 4 seed Binghamton at 5 P.M. EST, with a live broadcast on ESPN+. The tournament will continue Saturday with the next round of match-ups also at Noon EST and 5 P.M. EST.
