West Virginia baseball is bringing NCAA Tournament action back to Morgantown for the first time in seven years.

The Mountaineers saw their season come to a close with a 39-14 record and a runner-up finish in the Big 12 Tournament after losing to regular season champions the Kansas Jayhawks in the finals. With their performance, the program just hoped they had done enough to be named one of the Top 16 seeds and host an NCAA Regional, which last happened for the Mountaineers in 2019.

And while the full bracket won't be released until Monday afternoon, the host sites were released in alphabetical order on Sunday night, and WVU was quite pleased with the news.

Morgantown set to host NCAA Regional

The Mountaineers found themselves listed among the 16 host sites named on Sunday evening. Joining them are Georgia (Athens Regional), Georgia Tech (Atlanta Regional), Auburn (Auburn Regional), Texas (Austin Regional), UNC (Chapel Hill Regional), Texas A&M (College Station Regional), Oregon (Eugene Regional), Florida (Gainesville Regional), Southern Miss (Hattiesburg Regional), Kansas (Lawrence Regional), Nebraska (Lincoln Regional), UCLA (Los Angeles Regional), Mississippi State (Starkville Regional), Florida State (Tallahassee Regional), and Alabama (Tuscaloosa Regional).

The home atmosphere in Morgantown, which will certainly be electric for the added drama of postseason baseball, will be a significant advantage for the Mountaineers. For a team that has won their regional on the road two seasons in a row to advance to Super Regionals, you expect winning at home will feel a little bit easier.

The last time the Mountaineers hosted a regional in 2019, however, they were unable to advance, as they followed a win in the opening game against Fordham with consecutive losses to Duke and Texas A&M. The Blue Devils would go on to advance to the Super Regional.

The Mountaineers will find out exactly who is joining them in Morgantown for the NCAA Tournament on Monday, May 25, as the selection show will be broadcast live at Noon EST. Fans can follow along live on ESPN2.
