The Mountaineers made quite the impression on someone who saw the WVU-Maryland 'secret' scrimmage last week.

WVU men's basketball fans might want to get ready for something exciting this winter.

Many Mountaineer fans likely aren't expecting a miracle to be worked with the WVU basketball program given that they will be embarking on their fourth head coach in as many seasons, and have had to rebuild the roster from scratch for the second consecutive season. But many fans likely didn't expect the Mountaineers to be on the brink of postseason play before getting snubbed from the NCAA Tournament last season, particularly after star transfer Tucker DeVries missed most of the season.

So maybe it shouldn't be a major surprise that people who have seen this edition of the WVU team have already walked away quite impressed. The Mountaineers were reportedly dominant in a win over rival Maryland in a 'secret' scrimmage last weekend. And now word has trickled out from someone who saw the scrimmage that first-year head coach Ross Hodge might have himself a "better" team than the program had last season under Tucker DeVries.

The source also indicated that people should "remember the name Huff" in reference to transfer guard Honor Huff, who is one of the best returning three-point shooters in the nation and allegedly knocked down 10 three-pointers in the scrimmage. The source also gave a rave review on the team's defensive efforts and overall intensity.

"The whole team's good – they're good on defense, they're aggressive. I think they're going to be alright," the source reportedly said.

The Mountaineers will face in-state Division 2 opponent Wheeling this weekend in an exhibition game before getting the season under way November 4 against Mount St. Mary's. WVU is also hosting a trio of highly-touted recruits this weekend.
