West Virginia football fans are feeling like they might actually pull off something that likely seemed beyond reach just a couple months earlier.
Kevin Brown, a four-star offensive tackle prospect ranked as the sixth-best player nationally at his position in the Class of 2026 by the 247Sports composite rankings, was until recently fully committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions. But his father, Tim Brown, played for Rich Rodriguez and spent five years as a Mountaineer in college, and WVU is also a hop and a skip from his hometown of Harrisonburg, Pa.
Brown reopened his recruitment earlier this fall when the Nittany Lions fired James Franklin midseason, and WVU quickly joined Ohio State as emerging favorites in the process. But the Buckeyes added another 2026 offensive line signee just days after Brown's visit, and then Brown wore a set of gloves with the Flying WV logo during his next game before posting photos of the gloves to social media. Most recently, Brown decommitted from the Nittany Lions on Sunday and announced he'd be committing this week on The Pat McAfee Show, hosted by WVU Hall of Famer and fellow Pennsylvania native Pat McAfee.
That news came with On3's Steve Wiltfong solidifying his prediction that Brown would join WVU, which has been joined today by 247Sports' Brian Dohn also predicting that Brown will land with the Mountaineers, in large part due to the proximity to home and trust in Mountaineers' offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr.
"He's very sound in his coaching. He's been everywhere. He's been in the NFL, high college level, SEC, everywhere. He's done it all for a coach, and he's very sound," Brown told 247Sports about Bicknell. "He explains what he's talking about. It's very easy to understand what he's talking about."

Those quotes from Brown and the official prediction from 247Sports were followed later that day by McAfee discussing the upcoming decision for Brown being hosted on his show, referring to WVU basketball's recent five-star commit while teasing that Brown might be next.
"Biggest recruit in the history of basketball just yesterday. What will tomorrow bring? Who knows," McAfee said.
