One former West Virginia high school star that WVU baseball was unable to land was Chase DeLauter. But now that he's made it to the major league level, he's highlighting a fan-favorite WVU tradition with his walk-up music.
DeLauter, who was born in Maryland but grew up in Martinsburg, spent his high school career playing for Hedgesville High School, where he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state. He would end playing collegiately at James Madison, and with the Dukes, he paved his path to becoming an MLB Draft selection in 2022.
From there, he began a long journey to the major leagues, but finally made his debut at the top level of the sport last season. And despite his lack of connection to the West Virginia Mountaineers, he has adopted a song quite familiar to fans as his walk-up song.
Chase DeLauter takes 'Country Roads' to the MLB
DeLauter is currently using "Take Me Home, Country Roads" as his walk-up song at the professional level. It's a nod to his home state that didn't go unnoticed by WVU fans, as the song has taken on a life of it's own in association with the Mountaineers.

It's not the only time the song has made an appearance on the national sports stage in recent weeks, as American sports fans are likely getting tired of hearing the tune.
The West Virginia fan base ran up numbers online during the NCAA Tournament Regional Round and Super Regional Round, as the post-game tradition of singing the song after wins took over national television and the internet as the Mountaineers battled their way to the College World Series. Then, it was featured again during the FIFA World Cup, with the stadium belting put the song after a USA win.
