For West Virginia fans, a longstanding tradition that has carried on for over 20 years now is crowds singing 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' after a home win for the Mountaineers. It started with current football head coach Rich Rodriguez during his first stint coaching the program, but has since carried over to other sports.
Unfortunately for WVU fans, it's a tradition that was at a bit of a risk on Saturday as the Mountaineers hosted their first NCAA Tournament match-up in women's basketball in 34 years, putting Morgantown on the national stage. Despite the magnitude of the game for the program, the school has to remain neutral in it's efforts as a host site for the tournament.
That had implications in a few different aspects of game day presentation, but it also meant there was no playing the unofficial theme song of the program for fans to sing along with following a victory over Miami (OH) in the opening round. But West Virginia fans weren't about to let that stop them
After the game ended, the more neutral "Sweet Caroline" was played – a song also infamous in WVU lore but not as closely connected to the state of West Virginia or the Mountaineers – but West Virginia fans also took a moment while no music was playing to deliver an a capella version of 'Take Me Home, Country Roads.' The video of the touching moment can be seen below.

WVU had coach Mark Kellogg called the sellout crowd 'electric' after they set a new program home attendance record, and encouraged fans to 'run it back' on Monday as the Mountaineers will host No. 5 seed Kentucky in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
