It has been a good week for JJ Wetherholt.
The former West Virginia baseball standout and first round draft pick in the 2024 MLB Draft got the call up to the major leagues to begin this season for the St. Louis Cardinals, and he has been performing in excellent fashion ever since.
This week, Wetherholt returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh for the first time in MLB action as the Cardinals visited the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, and was welcomed by an enthusiastic hometown reception that included a contingent of West Virginia fans and coaches who made the trek to support the former Mountaineer. He opened the first game of the series by blasting a home run, and things would only get better from there.

On Thursday, Wetherholt added to an already excelllent performance at PNC Park this week with another big effort, sending his second homer out of the park this week while going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Wetherholt's homer helped power the Cardinals to a 10-5 win over the Pirates on Thursday, which helped the club capture a clean sweep of Pittsburgh in this week's four-game series. In total, Wetherholt finished the series 6-for-16 at the plate with six runs, three RBIs, and two home runs.
Wetherholt is garnering a lot of attention for his play in the major leagues this season, and West Virginia fans will be excited to continue to support him this season.
