The NBA Playoffs start today, and as it begins, two former WVU players will be hunting for their first-ever NBA Championship.

This year, both Jevon Carter and Miles McBride will have an opportunity to chase the grandest prize in professional basketball in the NBA Playoffs. Carter will play in the postseason with the Orlando Magic after being traded by the Chicago Bulls earlier this season, while McBride returns to the playoffs with the Knicks after they made a run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season.

Carter last made a playoff appearance in 2023 with the Milwaukee Bucks, but has failed to make it back since. He began the season with the Bulls, but was involved in a midseason trade that shipped him to the Magic.

Carter made an impact immediately for Orlando, and is averaging 7.2 points, 2.3 assists, and 2.1 rebounds in 20 minutes per game since the move. The Magic had to play earlier this week in the Play-In Tournament to secure their playoff spot as a No. 8 seed, and will begin their series against the No. 1 seed Pistons on Sunday.

McBride missed a chunk of the latter half of the season with an injury, but is back in the rotation for the Knicks ahead of the playoffs. He played a crucial role for New York in last year’s postseason competition, and is averaging a career high 12.0 points per game this season while also playing a career-best 26.3 minutes per game – he is also 2.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game this season.

The Knicks earned the No. 3 seed in the NBA Playoffs, and will begin their series with the No. 6 seed Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night.
