Garrett Greene's value skyrockets after incredible effort in NFL preseason opener

Garrett Greene had a successful career for the West Virginia Mountaineers as aquarterback, but the consensus after he finished his collegiate career in 2024 was that he didn't have much of a future at the position professionally. But Greene is nothing is not a fighter, and he decided to switch his position to wideout in attempt to forge a path in the NFL.

He managed tomake enough of an impressionin his first year to make the preseason roster for Tampa Bay, and eventually spent his rookie season on the practice squad for the franchise. And now, as the 2026 NFL preseason is officially underway, Greene is looking like he's ready to earn a spot on the final 53-man roster.

The Buccaneers battled the Jets and picked up a 24-16 victory on Friday night, and Greene played significant role in that. Greene was targeted seven times, hauling in four receptions to lead he team with 54 receiving yards – ahighlight-reel catchfrom former Big 12 rival quarterback Jalon Daniels was the exclamation point on the performance. He also had one kick return for 28 yards.

Greene was no slouch during the preseason last year,making multiple big plays. So it's likely no surprise to Tampa Bay fans that he's once again making waves. And after such a dynamic performance, his value will certainly rise when it comes to putting together the final 53-man roster.

Greene is now proving himself a consistent, reliable target over multiple seasons, and eventually, either the Buccaneers or another NFL franchise in need of a wideout will likely make the move to give him a shot at the final regular season roster.
