Former WVU quarterback Garrett Greene is putting himself in a prime position to make an NFL roster – and if he can pull it off, he'll be playing at a completely different position than in college.

Greene declared for the 2025 NFL Draft as a wide receiver, and while he went undrafted, he ended up signing a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While few are able to successfully make the transition from starting college quarterback to NFL wideout, videos have been emerging from preseason practices for the Buccaneers that show that it's entirely possible that the Mountaineers actually had Greene lining up at the wrong position in college.

Over the past couple days, Greene has been caught on film at practice by Tampa Bay news site Pewter Report hauling in some mighty impressive touchdown receptions – one coming as a one-handed grab in the back of the end zone while carefully keeping both feet from stepping out of bounds, and another that saw him snag a deep bomb over-the-top of a defensive back while actively being tackled to the ground as he attempted to control the ball. The latter video was even bore a caption expressing a sentiment many Mountaineer fans probably identify with: "Hard to believe Garrett Greene was a QB less than a year ago."

Greene never lined up at wide receiver for the Mountaineers but served as the starting quarterback in Morgantown, inheriting the role late in the 2022 season and holding onto it until through 2024. WVU fans will certainly be keeping a close eye on how things unfold in Tampa Bay as Greene looks to launch an improbable NFL career.
