WVU basketball program history is continuing to be reshaped as former players are standing out at the NBA level.
This season, four seperate former Mountaineers started at least one game at the NBA level – that sets a new West Virginia program record for most alumni to start in one season in the league.

Multiple former West Virginia Mountaineers earn starts at the NBA level
Miles McBride, New York Knicks: McBride has spent several seasons with the New York Knicks and is finding a significant spot in the franchise's rotation. He missed two months of the season due to injury, but has still made 39 appearances and 14 starts this year, and is averaging 11.9 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. He played with the Mountaineers from 2019-2021.
Javon Small, Memphis Grizzlies: Small was selected during the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft by the Grizzlies, and has made 40 appearances and 12 starts this season. He is averaging 9.6 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game this season while playing 20.1 minutes per game. He starred at West Virginia during his senior season from 2024-2025.
Toby Okani, Memphis Grizzlies: Okani was Small's teammate during the 2024-2025 season at WVU, and spent the season playing in the G-League before earning a 10-Day contract with the Grizzlies last Thursday, rejoining his former teammate. He has since made four appearances and two starts, averaging 8.5 points and three rebounds.
Jevon Carter, Orlando Magic: Carter started the season with the Chicago Bulls before being traded partway through the season to the Orlando Magic. He has started just one game this season, which came in orlando, but has made 51 appearances between the two franchises. He is averaging 6.5 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game. He played for the Mountaineers from 2014-2018.
