A former WVU football starting quarterback had an impressive preseason as he embarks on his rookie year in the NFL -- but it was not quite enough to play his way onto organization's final roster.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made their final round of roster cuts ahead of the Tuesday, August 26 deadline to establish a final 53-man roster, and Garrett Greene -- who was the signal caller at WVU but transitioned to wide receiver as he looks to make a professional career out of the sport -- was among the final players who were waived or released to keep the Bucs under the roster cap.

Greene had been turning heads in Tampa Bay with his preseason efforts, making some outstanding grabs in camp before racking up eight receptions for 65 yards and his first-ever NFL touchdown. However, as an undrafted free agent new to the position, his efforts wasn't quite enough to convince the Bucs to keep him on the roster for the remainder of the season.
Greene joins a number of other former Mountaineers to fall victim to roster cuts as the deadline to set the 53-man roster comes later today, As a player with less than four seasons completed at the NFL level, Greene will be waived, meaning he is now available to be picked up by another organization on the waiver wire. The Bucs will also be able to put together a 69-man practice squad with 16 additional players on the roster that are for practice purposes only, meaning Greene might still land a spot with the Buccaneers this season.
