WVU football head coach Rich Rodrigues has dipped into the JUCO level to find latest wide receiver commitment.
JUCO wide receiver Keon Hutchins announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on Tuesday. The 6’2”, 170-pound receiver is a three-star recruit from Northwest Mississippi Community College, according to 247Sports. Hutchins is the sixth-ranked wide receiver recruit in JUCO and the 35th-ranked JUCO recruit in the country.

Holding 18 offers, the JUCO product chose WVU over other schools such as Appalachian State, FIU, FAU, Liberty, and North Texas.
Hutchins will join several wide receiver recruits from the high school level, including three-star Robert Oliver and West Virginia’s own three-star Malachi Thompson, who is a receiver from Nitro High School in Nitro, West Virginia.
The 6’2” wide receiver, Hutchins, is a receiver with decent speed who can make some contested catches near the goal-line. Having another playmaker with reliable hands will be a solid addition to the depth chart, especially for the young quarterback, Scotty Fox Jr., who is trying to cement his role as the future of WVU football.
Coming from JUCO ball, Hutchins will have his work cut out for him. The transition from JUCO football to Big 12 football will not be an easy one, but that does not mean that it is impossible. Looking at the Houston Texans’ wide receiver, Tank Dell, who played football at Independent Community College (fans of the Netflix show, Last Chance U, will recognize the school’s name) before transferring to Houston University. Coming from the same school that Hutchins is currently at, veteran journeyman Gardner Minshew II also started his career at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Hutchins’ path is not easy, but it is a path that others before have taken. If he comes into the WVU program, puts the effort in the weight room, learns the system, and believes in the process, Hutchins could just turn himself into a solid Big 12 receiver.
