Several Mountaineer football players were seeking eligibility for the 2025 season by taking the NCAA to court over its eligibility rules. It was less than two weeks away from kickoff when the Mountaineers received the answer from U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey. With Judge Bailey’s decision in favor of the four players becoming eligible, the Mountaineer football program adds much needed depth and legit talent.
Jimmori Robinson, Tye Edwards, Justin Harrington, and Jeff Weimer were officially added to the roster on Monday and will play for the West Virginia Mountaineers in 2025. This is terrific news for a program that kicks off a new era under Rich Rodriguez in less than a week. Let’s get familiar with these four student-athletes and what they bring to the table.
Jimmori Robinson - Bandit
Transferring to WVU from UTSA, Robinson arguably becomes the most talented player on either side of the ball for the Mountaineers and is the player among this group fans are likely most acquainted with. The 2024 American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and former JUCO product is ready for a new challenge, and that is playing in the Big 12. With the official ruling form the judge, Robinson will have an opportunity to showcase his skillset against stiffer competition. Robinson simply has a knack for putting pressure on the quarterback and disrupting things in the opposing backfield. En route to his DPOY honors in 2024, Robinson accumulated 10.5 sacks on the season.
The level of impact that he has for the Mountaineers in his final collegiate season remains to be seen. However, there is a great reason for optimism in Morgantown regarding Jimmori Robinson and the terror that he can bring to opposing offenses.
Tye Edwards - Running Back
The 6’2” 225-pound running back transfer from Northern Iowa is expected to take some of the load off of Jahiem White, who saw his former running back mate CJ Donaldson transfer to Ohio State in the off-season. In 2024, Edwards eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark, rushing for 1,022 yards and 6 touchdowns. He did so while averaging 6.4 yards per carry on 159 rushes. Edwards is a big, physical running back who will undoubtedly play an important role in the Mountaineer offense this season.
Justin Harrington - Safety
After spending time at Oklahoma in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Harrington transferred to Washington, where he played in 8 games. His 2023 season as a Sooner in Brett Venables’ defense was cut short due to an ACL injury after just two games. Believe it or not, Harrington’s collegiate career began back in 2018 where he spent two seasons at Bakersfield Community College in California. He did not play for Oklahoma in 2020, played in four games in 2021, and redshirted. As a redshirt freshman at OU in 2022, he saw action in all 13 games.
The Mountaineers would certainly benefit from having a healthy Justin Harrington on the field in 2025. Much like the case with all of these players, whether or not he plays in game 1 against Robert Morris remains to be seen. Due to his just being granted eligibility, Harrington, Robinson, Edwards, and Weimer have not been able to practice with the team until now.
Jeff Weimer - Wide Receiver
The Idaho State transfer is coming off an incredible season. Weimer had 101 catches for 1,294 yards and 7 touchdowns. The 6’2 wideout transferring from the FCS level will look to prove that he can play a vital role as a weapon on the outside in Rich Rodriguez’s offense. With his one year of eligibility remaining, and it now becoming official, West Virginia is ecstatic about adding this level of talent to a deep, wide receiver room.
