The countdown to kickoff is on. The new era of WVU football under head coach Rich Rodriguez begins in a few days. As the 2025 season approaches, questions remain about the team, but answers will come with each game. This year, the West Virginia Mountaineers open against FCS opponent Robert Morris on Saturday, August 30th at 2pm EST.

As we enter the season with various question marks, let’s set the scene for Week 1 with some Over/Unders to watch for.

Quarterbacks Who Take A Snap In Week 1

Over/Under 3.5

While you could certainly set the line at 2.5 QBs, and it is tempting to do so, let’s have some fun and set it at 3.5. After all, Coach Rodriguez sure has been talking about this idea that he has five playable quarterbacks coming out of fall camp. The two most likely QBs to see action against Robert Morris are the returning Nicco Marchiol and Texas A&M transfer Jaylen Henderson. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, these two will see the field on Saturday afternoon.

If the Mountaineers are able to build a sizable lead against Robert Morris, could we see more quarterbacks? Likely the next QB to play would be Max Brown, the transfer from Charlotte. The two freshman quarterbacks, Khalil Wilkins and Scotty Fox, are where things get a little more interesting. If one of them plays, it would likely result in this over/under hitting the over. The way that Rodriguez is talking about his QB room heading into the season, that shouldn’t surprise anyone. Have some fun and take the over here.

2.     Total WVU Players To Catch At Least One Pass in Week 1

Over/Under 9.5

Sure, it’s almost an entirely new group of ball players, but in 2024’s matchup with Albany of the FCS, West Virginia had 10 players catch at least one pass, and there were only 20 pass completions for WVU in the entire game. In 2023, against FCS opponent Duquesne, 8 different Mountaineers caught passes on 17 completions. Taking the over on 9.5 may be a little ambitious, but there appears to be a lot of confidence coming out of the WVU wideout room heading into the season, and in Week 1, there will be a lot of players getting reps, take the over.

3.     Total Jahiem White Carries in Week 1

Over/Under 14.5

No longer splitting carries with CJ Donaldson, who transferred to Ohio State in the offseason, Jahiem White is poised for another solid season. In a running back room that has been dealing with injuries and eligibility issues, this is a room with some legitimate question marks behind Jahiem White.

WVU is hoping to solidify the run game against Robert Morris, and White will certainly need to be a big part of that. Will we see Tye Edwards hit the field after being ruled eligible? How much action will freshman Diore Hubbard see? Ideally, you don’t see Jahiem White wear himself down in week 1. If Hubbard, Edwards, and Cyncir Bowers are all able to go, expect White’s total carries to be under that 14.5 mark.
