In a game that’s about as highly-anticipated as this Saturday’s game, the 1957 match up pitted No. 8 West Virginia against No. 5 UK. Adolph Rupp was still coaching the Wildcats and the WVU basketball team’s legend, Fred Schaus was leading the Mountaineers.

At Memorial Coliseum in Kentucky, the WVU basketball team pulled out a 77-70 victory, which made the all-time series count at 5-3, in favor of the Wildcats.

For West Virginia, all five starters reached double figures in scoring with Lloyd Sharer leading with 21 points, Bob Smith had 17, Jerry West had 15, Don Vincent scored 14 and Joedy Gardner added 10.
