Between the first victory in 1927 and this one in 1941, the WVU basketball team played UK twice and lost both contests. West Virginia earned a 56-43 win against the Wildcats and their legendary coach Adolph Rupp.

This was a home game for the Mountaineers at the Mountaineer Field House, which is now known as Stansbury Hall on the West Virginia Downtown Campus.

The victory was paced by Rudy Baric, who scored 18 points. Also for West Virginia, James Ruch and Floyd Hamilton each scored 12.
