After a three-week stint in this season’s AP Top 25 Poll, WVU women’s basketball has dropped out of the poll entering this week.
The Mountaineers had climbed as high as No. 21 in the poll this season, but fell to 25th in last week's edition on the rankings following a pair of losses to Ohio State and Villanova the week prior. And despite a dominant win over Mercyhurst last week, they were unable to hold onto their spot. The Mountaineers actually fell below any of the other teams receiving votes in the poll, as they received just one vote in the poll.
In the Big 12, four different programs were ranked in the Top 25 – No. 8 TCU, No. 10 Iowa State, No. 13 Baylor, and No. 23 Oklahoma State all found themselves in this week’s edition on the poll. Texas Tech also found itself receiving votes in the poll, coming in 27th amongst all teams receiving votes with 24 total. The Mountaineers were tied for 32nd for vote-receiving teams alongside Illinois and Stanford.
The Mountaineers will have plenty of chances to rectify their rankings this week, as they have three games on deck before the next AP Top 25 poll will be released, including two contests against Power 5 competition – and all three of those will take place at home. The three-game stretch starts tonight against Texas Southern, and will continue with games on Thursday against Georgia Tech and Sunday against Texas A&M. After that stretch of action, WVU will take a week off before beginning conference play for the year.
