The West Virginia Mountaineers closed their season out on quite a high note – but their are a couple goals that have recently eluded the Mountaineers that they'd like to achieve this weekend at the Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament.

WVU finished out their season with victories over UCF and Cincinnati – the latter of those being a dominant 118-60 win against the Bearcats which shattered the program records for most points scored in a Big 12 game and the most points against a Division 1 opponent in program history. That was good enough to help them leap to No. 15 in the latest AP Top 25 poll.

The Mountaineers saw several players honored to close the season, with Jordan Harrison, Gia Cookie, and Kierra "Meme" Wheeler earning All-Big 12 honors and Harrison also being named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

WVU's finish was enough to secure second-place in the regular season Big 12 standings and secure a double-bye and 2-seed in the conference tournament. But there are even bigger goals on the team's mind.

The Mountaineers have never hosted an NCAA Tournament game since the Top 4 seeds in each region have been given the chance to do so, and their last Big 12 Tournament title came nine years ago in 2017.

The Mountaineers need just three wins to earn another conference tournament title, and if they can pull that off, they could be in play to earn one of those host seeds – they're currently 19th in the NET and have been consistently projected as a 5-seed for weeks, but there will likely be multiple opportunities for Quad 1 wins this weekend for the Mountaineers, which would help make their case as a 4-seed.

WVU's first game in the league tournament will come on Friday at 6:30 PM EST where they will face the winner of tonight's Arizona State/Iowa State showdown.
