The West Virginia Mountaineers, have faced their fair share of struggles as of late, and part of that has been due to injuries limiting the pitching rotation as the season wears on. But now, as the Mountaineers look to bounce back after a quite difficult couple of weeks with a conference series against the Kansas State Wildcats, they'll have a little bit less to worry about on the mound.
That's because the Mountaineers will see the return of one of their starting pitcher to the lineup after he ha missed significant time in recent weeks due to an injury. The news came on Thursday that pitcher Maxx Yehl will be back in the lineup for the Mountaineers.
Maxx Yehl returns to action for WVU baseball
Yehl was out of action last week as the Mountaineers suffered a brutal loss to Pitt in a midweek rivalry contest and then dropped a Big 12 series against the Cincinnati Bearcats, playing themselves out of a regional host seed for the time being. It was evident by the lineups that WVU rolled out that the team was struggling for an answer while down their top pitcher.
Now, Yehl returns and will hopefully be a boon for the Mountaineers. While he had a disappointing stretch leading up to the Houston game, where he left early due to his injury, he has been one of the team's most consistent starters this season, as he has posted 62 strikeouts while allowing just 17 runs and earning an 8-2 record.
