On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald J. Trump hosted NCAA Champions Day at the White House to honor several NCAA national championship winners, and among those making the trip are members of the WVU rifle team.
The Mountaineers captured their second consecutive team national championship this season, marking their 21st title win in total – which is the most among all NCAA programs in the sport's history.
"We're incredibly excited and honored to participate in an event and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity like this," head coach Jon Hammond said. "It's a reflection of the success our team has achieved and the work our student-athletes and staff have put in. Opportunities like this are rare, and to experience it again as a program is something we truly appreciate and do not take for granted."

I marks just the third time in program history that the team has earn such an invitation to celebrate a national championship – the Mountaineers previously visited the White House to see President Barack Obama in 2014, and visited Trump during his first term in the White House in 2017.
The Mountaineers choice to visit comes just months after the U.S. National Women's Hockey Team turned down an invitation to Trump's State of the Union address after their Gold Medal win at the Winter Olympics and five members (including two starters) of the U.S. National Men's Hockey Team skipped out on a visit the rest of the team took to the White House after they also captured Winter Olympic Gold.
