If you thought the West Virginia Mountaineers were done making moves in the transfer portal, it turns out you may have been wrong.
After relative silence for the better part of a month following a January flurry that saw WVU football add over 30 transfers to its roster, it seemed as if the program might have its roster set in place entering the spring season. But unique circumstances have arisen regarding one of the Top 20 edge rushers in the portal, and Rich Rodriguez and his staff are hoping to bring him to Morgantown.
WVU football targets high-impact 4-star transfer with serious NFL potential
Baylor EDGE Kamauryn Morgan is back on the transfer portal market
Morgan was a true freshman last season with the Baylor Bears, seeing limited action in ten games and recording seven tackles. And while those stats don't turn many heads, the fact that he was on the field for a Big 12 defense as a true freshman speaks volumes. But that should be no surprise, given that he was a four-star high school prospect and ranked among the Top 30 edge rushers and Top 40 players from Texas in the Class of 2025, according to 247Sports.

Morgan is already picking up big SEC and Big Ten interest.

This offseason, he re-entered the portal and was once again tabbed as a four-star prospect, this time ranked the 18th-best transfer portal at his position and the 119th-best overall player available in portal. Morgan initially committed to James Franklin at Virginia Tech, but an issue stemming from a grade at Baylor in the fall prevented enrollment.
He has since appealed the grade and won that appeal, and is now looking to enroll at a new school immediately. West Virginia appears to be in the mix, and Morgan himself replied to a video from Locked On West Virginia regarding his recruitment with the caption "West Virginia??" alongside a side-eye emoji often used to signal interest in a subject.
If he does end up at WVU, he would be a huge potential boon to the team's defense. Edge rushers were one position where the Mountaineers lacked a bit in the portal, and out of high school, Morgan received rave reviews from 247Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks – who believes the rising prospect could be a future star on Sundays.
"High-major defensive end/edge prospect who could become a multi-year impact starter. May be able to get on the field early thanks to fairly polished play style, especially considering improvement vs. the run. Possesses traits that could lead to significant NFL Draft potential," Brooks wrote about Morgan.
