While neither move made a lot of noise, the West Virginia Mountaineers added to their already extensive transfer portal class in recent weeks with a pair of defensive backs.

One area in which the Mountaineers were looking little thin after most of the portal activity wrapped up was on the defensive side of the ball, with some serious gaps at safety in particular, with no returning players at the position. Now, the Mountaineers will have a bit more depth to play with in their secondary unit.

West Virginia Mountaineers add Alex Adebayo, Shane Cornali

The first addition for the Mountaineers comes at cornerback in Delaware transfer Alex Adebayo. Adebayo joined the Blue Hens in 2024 while they were still at the FCS level, and stayed with the program as they transitioned to the FBS and the Conference USA this past season.

Adebayo saw no action with Delaware during his first two seasons, but the 6-foot-1 corner was a three-year letterwinner at Howard High School in Maryland, where he finished his senior season with 52 tackles, two interceptions, 12 pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

Cornali, meanwhile, was a teammate of standout four-star WVU signee Matt Sieg at Fort Cherry High School outside of Pittsburgh before spending his freshman collegiate season at the Division 2 level with Wheeling (WV).

Cornali didn't see any action last season with the Cardinals, but was a four-sport athlete at Fort Cherry. He was a three-time all-conference selection and one-time All-District selection on the gridiron in high school, setting the Fort Cherry school record for both single-season interceptions and career interceptions.
