On Saturday, WVU football concluded their second week of preseason camp with an intra-squad scrimmage that head coach Rich Rodriguez acknowledged earlier in the week was going to be "an important day for us just to let our guys play some football without telling them what to do on every snap."
The media and fans were not invited inside Milan Puskar Stadium to watch any action from the scrimmage, though Rich Rodriguez recapped the action by saying it was a "productive day from a head coach standpoint." But on Saturday evening the official WVU football account on X, formerly known as Twitter, release some footage from the scrimmage that showed a stunning play which was likely among the more "productive" efforts the coaching staff saw on the day.
True freshman quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. and junior wide receiver Rodney Gallagher III were shown in the clip linking up on a massive pass that belongs on both players' highlight reels moving forward. Fox dropped back and tossed a deep bomb from what looks to be around the midfield logo on Mountaineer Field. The pass was a perfect spiral, and eventually came down right on target as Gallagher stretched out his arms and completed a diving reception to haul in the ball just short of the goal line.

Fox has been rumored to be the quarterback of the future for the Mountaineers, while Pro Football Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis has pegged Gallagher as a future NFL star. By the looks of the film we saw from Saturday's intra-squad scrimmage, both assessments might not be far off. While the depth chart for the upcoming season isn't yet set, both players have multiple season of eligibility remaining and WVU fans are likely salivating at the thought of seeing the pair link up in an actual game after seeing what they can do together.
