The West Virginia Mountaineers saw another member of their roster decide to depart the program and enter the transfer portal on Tuesday.
This time, the Mountaineers lose linebacker Ben Bogle, who joined the program last offseason as a transfer from Southern Illiinois, where he had earned All-Missouri Valley Football Conference and All-America honors for a sophomore season that saw him rack up 87 tackles (16.5 TFLs), 5.5 sacks, two pass deflections, and two interceptions.
This past season with West Virginia, it took him time to adjust to the FBS level but became a critical and strongly performing piece of the defensive rotation for the Mountaineers, as he racked up 37 tackles (5 TFLs) and three sacks for he Mountaineers in 12 appearances.
Bogle felt like a strong potential portal target for other teams heading in the offseason, and many West Virginia fans were counting the program as lucky for retaining him. But now, he has decided it would best suit his interests to play elsewhere.
Bogle becomes the third linebacker to depart the program for the portal this season, but the program also loses a pair of starters in Reid Carrico and Chase Wilson as their eligibility has come to an end. Overall, the Mountaineers have lost 48 players to the portal this offseason, just short of the number of players added to the program with their high school/JUCO signing class.
West Virginia has currently added eight transfers to their roster, including one linebacker in former UNLV and UCLA defender Isaiah Patterson.
