A WVU offensive lineman has decided to step away from football, at least for the time being, after dealing with personal health matters. During this time, the WVU player is focused on his health and is being supported by his family and friends.

Coming into Morgantown with SEC experience, Ayden Bussell was a good addition to the offensive line to add some much-needed depth for the position group. Flash forward a couple of months to fall camp, and on Saturday it was announced that the Mountaineers will be without Bussell as he has stepped away from the program to deal with a personal health concern. WVU football fans and WVU sports media professionals are hoping for the best for the Tennessee transfer.

The Mount Juliet, Tennessee, native brought SEC experience to the WVU offensive line room. Spending his first two collegiate seasons at Tennessee, Bussell redshirted his first season and played in three games while tallying 62 snaps in 2024.

Bussell was a nice addition to the offensive line, especially given the position group was one of the most questioned positional groups coming into the 2025 season. After head coach Rich Rodgriguez was concerned with the offensive line play, the last thing that he wanted was to lose a good depth piece to the line with some serious questions. It should go without saying that WVU fans should be concerned that Bussell is getting the needed medical help that he deserves, but it still proves to be a big loss that any coach hates to see.

As Bussell is dealing with a personal health matter, his representatives and family has asked that the media and fans respect his privacy during this difficult time for the young football player. Hopefully, Bussell gets the needed care and can recover potentially leading to a return to the team at some point in his collegiate career. WVU fans should wish the best for Bussell and his family.
