With Jacob Barrick and Grayson Barnes out of eligibility, West Virginia football is embarking on a rebuild in their tight end room. And after landing their first commitment at the position from the transfer portal over the past weekend, they landed a former starting tight end at the SEC level on Monday evening.

WVU secured a commitment from Cam Ball, a primarily blocking tight end who made 24 appearances and four starts for the Bulldogs over the past two seasons. At 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds, Ball brings a massive frame that will be a natural fit in Rich Rodriguez's offense that thrives on extra blockers in the run game and heavy sets that overwhelm defenses in the trenches.

Ball recorded two receptions for 12 yards during his tenure with the Bulldogs. Before his time in Starksville, he spent two seasons at Buffalo. He made 11 appearances and six starts with the program, and recorded eight receptions for 82 yards during his time with the Bulls. He will join the West Virginia

Ball will join Clemson transfer Josh Sapp as transfer portal signees for the Mountaineers at the position. Sapp spent a four-season stint with the Clemson Tigers, where he stated multiple games and recorded 273 receiving yards and two touchdowns during his time with the program. He recorded a career-high 267 snaps during the 2025 season, and will also have one season remaining.

The Mountaineers also return Ryan Ward at the position, who joined the Mountaineers as a redshirt freshman in 2025 and record six receptions for 41 yards and one touchdown.
