Rich Rodriguez has been vocal during preseason camp for WVU football that he is looking to continue to add to his roster from the transfer portal to round out depth where needed, and two additions have already been made with defensive lineman Oluwaseyi Omotosho and linebacker Caleb Nuhi-Yandall. On Wednesday evening, yet another defensive player joined the team as the Mountaineers added Franklin Pierce (NH) transfer Hubert Hendrickson III to the roster. Hendrickson announced his commitment on X, formerly known as Twitter. He is set to play cornerback for West Virginia.

Hendrickson graduated in the Class of 2024 before playing for the Ravens at the NCAA Division 2 level last season, though it appears he redshirted as he registered no stats and maintains four seasons of eligibility. He also competed in track and field for Franklin Pierce, where he ran the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and 400 meter dash. He initially entered the transfer portal at the end of May.

Hendrickson's film from his senior season of prep football shows a sufficient ability to defend the pass, but also an aggressive tackler who is efficient at attacking ballcarriers below the waist and wrapping up to ensure they aren't able to wiggle away. He also demonstrates enough speed to chase down offensive skill players from across the field and from behind, which likely comes in part from his background in track and field.

While he currently lists himself at cornerback on his X page, his film suggests he'd fit well for the West Virginia Mountaineers in the 'Cheetah' position that is a fixture in the defense he and his mentor Brent Venables ran last season at Oklahoma. He also would likely be a valuable addition as a nickelback in short-yardage situations where both the pass and run attack are viable threats.
