Summer baseball has wrapped up for collegiate baseball players. With the conclusion of summer leagues, a look back at the action shows that one WVU player took advantage of the high-pressure situation to crank out a number of strong performances.

Gavin Kelly shone bright in the Cape Cod League playoffs for the Bourne Braves. Kelly, who was featured often in a utility man for WVU baseball last season, found different ways to help the Braves win games.

On August 8, Kelly went 3-5 with a double, three RBIs, and scored three times. The utility man for WVU baseball was a big factor in why the Braves won their playoff game on Friday.

Flash forward a couple of days, on August 10, Kelly was back to making winning plays for the Braves. This time hitting the walk-off hit in the 12th inning to send the Braves to the Cape Cod Championship Game.

One day later on August 11, Kelly pulled off a steal of home. And on Tuesday, he left the yard with a big fly that got over the fence and another double.

It's safe to say Kelly was on a tear recently for the Braves in the Cape Cod League, and the rising star's contributions helped lead the Braves to capture the 2025 Cape Cod Baseball League Championship.

After he played a crucial role in the rotation for WVU baseball as a true freshman and then had a big summer in the Cape Cod League, many WVU baseball fans will have high expectation for Kellyas he returns for his sophomore season with the West Virginia Mountaineers.
