After WVU baseball (3-0) started their season on a great foot with a series sweep against the Jacksonville Dolphins (0-3), the Mountaineers are set to get back to action this weekend.

WVU will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on the Lipscomb Bison in a four-game series. Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday will include a doubleheader with the action starting at 1 p.m. -- the series will conclude on Monday with Game 4 set for Noon.

Led by a great weekend performance from Skylar King, and a great overall pitching performance from the bullpen, WVU comes into this series with some good momentum. King’s .600 batting average is leading the team in batting average for the young season.

King will be joined by 2025 Big 12 Preseason Team catcher Logan Sauve and all-time program leader in home runs Grant Hussey to propel this offense.

Lipscomb is 1-1 this season, giving up 11 runs in a loss to Kentucky last weekend in addition to giving up 10 runs in a win over Evansville on Tuesday. WVU’s high-profile offense looks to take advantage of a Bison staff that is struggling to keep runs off the board so far this season.

Starting on the mound for the Mountaineers are D2 transfer Griffin Kirn, Robby Porco, and Gavin Van Kempen respectively for the first three games. The Game Four starter has yet to be announced by the WVU Baseball team.

The pitching staff has an exceptional first series with multiple pitchers seeing quality innings, and WVU only allowed seven runs in three games.

Kirn had a dominating performance in Game One. Starters Porco and Van Kempen also fared well. Relievers Carson Estridge and Reese Bassinger pitched very well out of the bullpen. The Mountaineer pitching staff looks to continue to strand runners on base and be very stingy in giving up runs in the series against Lipscomb.

If the Mountaineers could leave Nashville with four wins and an overall record of 7-0, that would be a great opportunity for WVU before conference play begins next month. WVU will open conference play on March 14 at Oklahoma State. In a Big 12 conference with some serious opponents, WVU needs to maintain a good non-conference record.
