The West Virginia Mountaineers returned from a weekend trip to Liberty in Lynchburg, Virginia, with their second series victory of the season, but it didn't come without a significant health scare.
John Glasscock, the father of WVU redshirt sophomore pitcher JJ Glasscock, shared a story on X, formerly known as Twitter, regarding a health update on his son. Glasscock made the trip to Liberty for the series, but reportedly felt tight during practice the night before the series opener.
Upon seeing a trainer, it was revealed that his arm and shoulder were swollen, and he was quickly transported to the emergency room. A series of scans revealed a 10cm blood clot on his shoulder and a smaller one in his lung that doctors were less worried about. After having the clot removed, he was placed on blood thinners and subsequently was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
Glasscock was released from the hospital on Saturday and returned to his team for the final game before making the return trip home with the Mountaineers. He is reportedly set to meet with WVU doctors this coming week and will soon meet with a specialist to have his top rib nearest his shoulder surgically removed. How long he will be out with the injury was not disclosed.
Glasscock has made one appearance this season, pitching one inning during the opening series of the season against Georgia Southern last weekend. He tossed nine pitches and recorded one strikeout in the win. Last season, Glasscock made 12 appearances and tossed seven strikeouts in six innings, including one scoreless inning pitched each in the Big 12 Tournament and the NCAA Regional Final.
